Congratulations Andre!

Congratulations to Andre Ingram, HSHS Class of 2003, on receiving an NBA contract and his NBA debut!  Andre spent many years pursuing his dream and his hard work has paid off.  Andre is a great example of our theme this year- “Success is a Journey not the Destination.”

We here at Highland Springs are extremely proud of his accomplishment and we look forward to watching him in the NBA for many years to come!  Please enjoy a few throwback pictures from the 2003 Highland Springs High School Yearbook.

Bridging the Watershed Field Trip

Highland Springs High School students in Dawn Sherwood’s AP environmental science class spent a day combining history and science – a cool outing for a nice fall day. The class spent the day at the James River investigating the river’s health by measuring nutrients, dissolved oxygen, flow rate and clarity.

The site was near the American Civil War Museum‘s historic Tredegar Iron Works downtown, so the students also got a chance to check out the physics of Civil War cannons, and simulated the process of loading and firing a cannon. And of course, they took along the #HCPSflag.

When students returned to HSHS, they analyzed the environmental data in their classroom.

The program was hosted by National Park Service staff at Richmond National Battlefield Park, and the Alice Ferguson Foundation‘s “Bridging the Watershed” program. The program promotes academic achievement, connections with the natural world, civic engagement, and environmental stewardship. The nonprofit works with teachers to provide students with meaningful watershed educational experiences through hands-on, curriculum-based outdoor studies in national parks and public lands. Explore the Bridging the Watershed program at http://fergusonfoundation.org/bridging-the-watershed/.

What a cool trip for these Springers!
